Future Residents – Living Learning Communities
The engage Community
The engage Learning Community is a special housing area for students admitted to the College of Engineering (see College Admissions Requirements, College of Engineering, Undergraduate Catalog). Residence in this community, however, is not required for freshmen enrollment in the college of Engineering. During the last academic year approximately 35 percent of the freshman engineering students were in the engage Learning Community.
All engineering programs have a common freshman core, an engineering fundamentals curriculum which includes Engineering Fundamentals 105, 151, and 152, built around teaming students for project-oriented, hands-on activities in physics and computer applications.
If you choose to live in the engage Learning Community, you'll live on the same residence hall floor with other engage Learning Community students, and you'll take your common classes with them. This makes it easy to share notes from study groups, and to develop a sense of camaraderie, as "everyone is in it together."
You'll have access to all of the educational, social, and recreational programs available to all residence hall students. You'll also get to be a part of the engage Housing Community activities like pizza parties, movie night, and group outings. You'll not only form strong bonds and develop personal relationships with other future engineers but also will start networking early for summer jobs, internships, and course projects.
