Future Residents – Residence Life and You
Getting Involved in Your Residence Hall
A great way to get involved in your residence hall and on campus is to join your Hall Association. Residents pay a small membership fee and enjoy access to a variety of special equipment, social activities, and food events. The Hall Association is the student government of your residence hall and is active in planning new programs and carrying on the traditions established in the past. An Executive Board is usually elected during the spring semester, although some offices may be open at the beginning of the fall semester. Students in these leadership positions oversee the Hall Association budget and plan activities for the residents.
The United Residence Halls Council (URHC) is the umbrella organization for all residence hall associations. All students living in the residence halls are automatically members of URHC. This organization serves as a sponsor of campus events, provides funding for events sponsored by hall associations, and represents resident concerns to the Department of University Housing and to SGA. You will receive mailings from URHC during the summer. Each summer URHC works with selected vendors to provide students with extra options for improving their rooms. Students will receive mailings on purchasing linens, renting lofts, and buying carpet. A percentage of each sale goes to support URHC-sponsored programs in the residence halls.
| You are required to get a VolCard (ID). The VolCard allows you to gain access to the living sections in your residence hall, do your laundry, and purchase snacks from the residence hall vending machines. In addition, you must use your card for your meal plan in the cafeterias, to check out books from the library, and to pick up tickets to major sporting events. If you lose your VolCard, you will be required to pay a replacement fee. |
