Purpose
This position will be a central staff position in the Department of
University Housing and will have responsibility for coordinating the
staffing process for both full-time and student residence life staff.
The position will also have the responsibility for directing the staff
training program for full-time and student residence life staff members.
The position will also have responsibility for coordinating and directing
the programming efforts in the residence halls and in family and graduate
apartment housing, including the coordination of the learning communities
and academic support programming. This position will report directly to
the Executive Director of University Housing.
Staff Recruitment and Selection
- Supervise year long committees for both Resident Assistant and
Professional Staff positions. Coordinates the staff recruitment
process for full time residence life staff members as well as graduate
level Assistant Hall Directors and student Resident Assistant positions.
- Recommends staff exempt appointments for the Department of University
Housing to the Executive Director.
- Insures departmental compliance with existing university personnel
policies and procedures.
- Recruit undergraduate students for Resident Assistant positions.
- Develop a marketing plan and advertising campaign for Resident Assistant
positions.
- Work with the RA Recruitment and Selection Committee to develop a fair
and inclusive selection process that includes, written applications,
group process activities and individual interviews.
- Coordinates the Department of University Housings affirmative action
program.
Residence Life Responsibilities
- Coordinates the planning and directing of the staff development and
training process for all levels of Department residence life staff
including a credit course for Resident Assistants.
- Provides leadership in the development of educational programming
within the residence halls and in family and graduate apartment housing.
- Coordinates the staff evaluation process for Hall Directors, Assistant
Hall Directors, Resident Assistants and Hall Clerks.
- Coordinates the distribution, collection and review of all department
Benchmarking assessment materials.
- Coordinates the professional development program for residence life staff.
- Reviews and recommends residence life policy and procedures for changes.
- Formulates mission and goals for the residence life program.
- Oversees residence life programming budgets.
Student Interaction
- Maintain a high level of student contact and availability.
- Promote student involvement in activities and decision making within Residence
Life.
- Function as a resource for accurate information concerning University life.
- Provide counseling and referral for students with educational, personal, or
other concerns.
- Attend community development activities in the residence halls.
Learning Communities
- Work in partnership with other academic departments to foster awareness of and support for existing and developing residential learning communities.
- Facilitate the overall recruitment and assignment process for the learning communities.
- Act as the primary liaison with the Honors Program, the College of Architecture and Design, the College of Engineer and the Student Success Center to coordinate the Learning Communities.
- Work closely with the hall staff in developing the programming efforts for the learning communities.
Freshmen Orientation/ Fall Move In
- Develop the Orientation publications that are distributed to parents and students.
- Speak to parents of new students during Parent Orientation about issues involving University Housing.
- Coordinate the publication, printing and mailing of departmental freshmen check-in brochure and assignment information.
- Serves as departmental liaison with the Student Orientation Office and coordinates departments' orientation presentations for students and parents
Other Administrative Responsibilities
- Respond to students' and parents' housing and residence life concerns on a regular basis.
- Coordinates the publication of brochures, to include housing view book, assignment materials, learning community recruitment brochures and works closely with the Assistant Director of Technology in at ongoing review of the housing web site.
- Chair, advise, and serve/on departmental, divisional, or university committees as invited or assigned.
- Encourages, supports and initiates opportunities for staff development at all levels of the departmental organization, to include professional conference attendance and departmental committee work.
- Assist the Executive Director of University Housing in the development goals and administrative policy for Residence Life.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of University Housing
