University Housing Staff - Assistant Director for Technology

Position Description

Purpose

This position is a Central Staff position and will have the responsibility of administering all activities involving the Information Technology area for the Department of University Housing at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Principal Duties

  • Responsible for the overall information infrastructure of the Department of University Housing, which includes over 150 computer systems, numerous software applications, eight servers, programming applications, web development, and other requirements needed to meet the needs of this department.
  • Interviews, hires and supervises the staff (currently includes a computer support specialist, IT Analyst II, and two graduate assistants) in the technology area of the department.
  • Assesses technical staffing needs and recommends changes to the Executive Director.
  • Promotes and encourages training opportunities within the technical staff in order to stay abreast of new technology.
  • Schedules and monitors staff to meet the department's demands assuring emergency and general computing coverage.
  • Prepares the annual operating budget for the technology area.
  • Oversees and administers the technology budget expenditures (i.e. new computers, software).
  • Evaluates and recommends hardware and software applications which need to meet compatibility requirements of existing equipment and applications.
  • Consults with vendors on new technology for the department.
  • Stays abreast of new technology by attending conferences and seminars and by reading trade brochures.
  • Coordinates, confers, and works with other computing departments on campus to insure cohesion and security among campus applications used by this department.
  • Writes and maintains interfaces between the CS-Housing System and the Mainframe admissions, accounts receivable databases and the Diebold card systems.
  • Maintains bookkeeping systems applications to comply with State auditing requirements.
  • Runs scheduled data transfers and backups of Housing's major applications.
  • Maintains the Oracle database used by CS-Housing.
  • Maintains the SQL Servers for Kronos, the time and attendance software.
  • Maintain the department's Housing, Email and NT servers.
  • Oversees the maintenance and production of the Department of University Housing Web Site.
  • Prepares reports as needed by the various sections of this department and campus.
  • Complies with University computing codes and connectivity issues.
  • Trains Housing staff on CS-Housing, GroupWise Email and general computing applications.
  • Orders computer forms and supplies for the contracts and mailings produced by this department.
  • Performs other duties required by this position when assigned.
