| When UT Knoxville built
its first apartment building for unmarried students, the hall was
hailed as a "new approach for single-student housing."
Fifteen stories high, the Apartment Residence Hall was commonly
referred to as Rose Avenue Apartments. When Rose Avenue was renamed
Andy Holt Avenue, the residence hall became known as Andy Holt Apartments
or just Andy Holt. An administrative building in Circle Park (Andy
Holt Tower) holds rights to the name, but the Apartment Residence
Hall's nickname still causes confusion. The Apartment Residence
Hall is the largest on campus, housing more than 1200 students.
It remains unique at UTK in offering apartment living to single
students.
The hall houses men and women on separate floors with option E
visitation. Only upper-class and graduate students may live in the
Apartments. Each apartment houses four students The living room,
bedrooms, and study areas are completely furnished. The kitchen
has a refrigerator, stove and disposal. Hall amenities include Andy's
Pantry (a grocery and deli), a laundry, a post office, and a computer
lab. Remote 96 features 16 Macintosh and IBM computers plus scanning
and laser printing capability. The hall is open through semester
breaks.
