Living and Learning Communities
One of the best predictors of success in college is how involved you are and how much you feel a part of the campus.
The University of Tennessee, Knoxville offers ten "learning community" options for freshman students. Each community has a specific focus and each provides distinctive opportunities to connect with classmates, develop valuable skills, become involved in campus life, and ultimately develop skills necessary to be both a successful UT Knoxville student and a successful leader.
Former learning community students have tutored children at an elementary school, volunteered at the Love Kitchen to feed those in need, and worked with patients on the cancer ward of Children's Hospital. By living together on one floor of a residence hall, you will have the opportunity to take classes together, study together, participate as a floor in cultural and educational programs, intramurals, and become involved in community events and social activities.
If you have any physical limitations requiring special accommodations, please attach a note to your housing application describing those limitations. Students with physical disabilities will be given comparable and accessible housing. You must also contact Disability Services, 2227 Dunford Hall; Knoxville, TN 37996; (865)974-6087 (TDD available).
If you are interested in applying to join a learning community, you will need to submit a separate request form in addition to your University Housing contract.
